FontLab VI ship update
FontLab VI will not ship in 2016 after all. The new target is February.
We had said all year that FontLab VI would arrive “this year.” Earlier this month it became clear that was not going to happen.
We could have rushed the last few things and shipped anyway. Anyone who has used software for long knows how that ends. FontLab VI simply needs more bake time — more weeks of real type-design work, ours and yours, to surface and fix the bugs and rough edges that only show up under a genuine workout.
In the meantime, the Public Preview builds keep coming, more often than before. If you already run a Public Preview on Mac or Windows, launch it and it will offer the newest build. New testers can register to receive a download link. When something breaks, please report it on the user forum — that feedback is what turns a capable app into a finished one.
FontLab VI is a flexible tool with many possible workflows. That is a strength, but it also means the app benefits most from real users running real tasks, not just from us doing things the way we already know how. Thanks for the help getting there.
